Description

I love to ride through rice field country in southern Louisiana, especially in late summer when waterfowl have completed their nesting activities for the year and are now in flocks feeding in the flooded rice fields that dot the countryside. There's no telling what one might spot. I was happy to see this lone juvenile, a black crowned night heron, posing so tranquilly in the shallow waters of the field.
