Description
I was privileged to be able to witness the building of this little marvel of a nest in one of the crepe myrtle trees in my yard. The blue gray gnatcatcher pair worked tirelessly constructing this marvelous little nest using lichens, mosses, spider webs, and countless other materials. I was in awe. Sadly, they did not actually lay eggs in the nest. They abandoned it and found another location. I read that this is typical behavior of these birds; they may build multiple nests before deciding which is the best for their needs. I'm just happy I was able to see these little architects at work.
